The Crimea
Camden Monarch, 11th September 2002

With my new life in a 9-5 job (well more 10 - 5 because Im having issues waking up on time), I rarely manage to go anywhere mid-week other than work followed by home. In a sudden attempt to ditch lethargy and actually *have* a life, I took myself down to the Camden Barfly to meet people I hadn't seen in years and see a band who I hadn't seen in years...

The Crimea are a London-based 4 piece comprising 2 parts ex-crocketts (Davey and Owen) and 2 parts new blood (Andrew and Joe). After a year of stormy seas, band members leaving to do various 9-5s and record label loyalty losses (try saying that after 5 tequilas) Davey and Owen venture back into the music seen with The Crimea. I find it hard to describe the band musically as this is the first time I have seen them and even heard them, but with Daveys vocals and writing talents, they are bound to be a different kettle of fish!!!
It was obvious that the band were somewhat nervous this being one of their first "electric" appearances infront of a large crowd (most of whom are crocketts fans - so loyal) but this doesn't affect their ability to play and to play well.

Needless to say, I am paying for my late night today. Stuck at my computer trying to organise the million and one projects I have piled on my desk.. The Crimea will be playing at the Dublin Castle on October 1st (a Tuesday and the day after my birthday) I intend to be there, but with the hangover Im bound to have, and the whole mid-week thing... we'll have to see!!
